Smoke at home, get a fine

I couldn’t find a recent article on this ban but I was outside having a smoke with some people in my building where I work(we were in the designated smoking area) and a gentleman from Belmont was telling us about the ban.
He said that it got passed 3-2 and that the people of the city didn’t really get a chance to vote on it at all. Some democracy, huh? Read the rest of this entry »

I was shocked to read this in the paper recently:
A local restaurant association took its fight against additional costs to one of the nation’s highest-ranking jurists.
San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera has until Wednesday to respond to a petition the Golden Gate Restaurant Association filed with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy — who also serves as circuit justice for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals — to overrule an emergency stay the appeals court issued in January.

According to a recent article in the Sacramento Bee, Defaults and foreclosures are skyrocketing in California.
In fact, things are getting so bad in the California housing market, that foreclosures jumped up 500% in the fourth quarter of 2007.

California vs the Navy

Don’t step on the toes of the military - that’s what the US Navy is saying to the state of California these days.
It appears that the use of Naval sonar is causing problems for sea life off the coast of California, and the Navy is not too happy about being restricted in their operations there. Read the rest of this entry »
